College
Player and PC Assistant Named Head Football Coach
Jeffrey A. Humble, a former
college player and currently a coach at Penn Charter, has
been appointed head varsity coach of Penn Charter's football
team.
"Jeff has a solid football
background, and he brings commitment and energy to this task,"
said Director of Athletics Paul Butler. "We're excited for
him and for the team."
A native of Wilkes-Barre, Humble
played high school football at Coughlin High School and later
at the State University of New York at Cortland. At Cortland,
Humble was the starting quarterback from 1997 to 1999, and
he was a five-time conference Player of the Week. He has coached
football for eight years, including four at North Syracuse
Central School District, where, as assistant varsity coach,
he worked with defensive backs, quarterbacks and wide receivers,
and managed a rigorous practice and game schedule.
Humble has coached football
at Penn Charter since 2004. He has served as defensive backs
coach and co-defensive coordinator; he has taken an active
role in analyzing films and defensive strategies. Humble has
worked to create practice plans and schedules, and to identify
prospective student athletes in the region. He is also a member
of the coaching staff of the Philadelphia Little Quakers.
In addition, Humble is also a science teacher in Penn Charter's
Middle School.
Butler said the school looks
forward to a smooth transition because of Humble's knowledge
of the program. Humble succeeds former head varsity coach
Brian McCloskey, who resigned after 21 years of coaching football
at PC, including 13 of those years as head coach. McCloskey,
a highly respected teacher-coach at Penn Charter, decided
he wanted more time to explore the application of technology
to teaching math.
