Us for the Second Annual Run for Peace on Sept. 15
The Run for Peace, established
last year to honor the lives of two Penn Charter alumni killed
in the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center, will
be held at Penn Charter on Sept. 15, 2007.
"The Run for Peace is a visible
demonstration of our Quaker belief in the power of coming
together in a way that promotes joy, peace of mind and a renewed
sense of purpose for living - especially in the face of such
tragedy," said John T. Rogers, chief development officer at
Penn Charter.
The event honors Kenneth G.
Caldwell OPC '89 and Peter K. Ortale OPC '83, and proceeds
benefit the Peter K. Ortale Scholartship Fund and the Kenneth
G. Caldwell OPC '89 Memorial Scholarship Fund at Penn Charter.
Family and friends established the two funds to pay tribute
to the lives and accomplishments of two remarkable men.
The second annual Run for Peace
begins with registration from 9 to 9:45 a.m. in the front
circle. Participants in the 5k open run competition and in
the family 1-mile walk may pick up their t-shirts there. The
5k run begins at 10 a.m., and those participating in the 1-mile
walk will start out at 10:15 a.m. Both the run and the walk
will start from the front circle. Post-run festivities will
feature a variety of refreshments.
Register
online until Sept. 13 or in person the day of the event.

funds, contact Chief Development Officer Jack Rogers at jarogers@penncharter.com

Ortale graduated from Penn Charter
in 1983 and from Duke University in 1987. At both schools
he excelled in the classroom and the playing fields; his competitive
ardor suited him well for his profession as a securities broker.
The scholarship in honor of Ortale provides tuition assistance
to an Upper School student who exhibits the qualities of a
scholar/athlete and demonstrates a high level of motivation,
self-reliance and leadership both in the classroom and on
the playing field.
Caldwell graduated from Penn
Charter in 1989 and from Hofstra University in 1993. His classmates
remember his contagious smile, and the Caldwell scholarship
fund was established to celebrate an "effervescent spirit,
lust for life and captivating personality that touched all
who knew and loved Kenny." The scholarship provides tuition
assistance to a student who exemplifies Caldwell's upbeat
personality, appreciation for city life and commitment to
positively influencing others.
