Applying for Financial Aid

Please carefully read the instructions below that explain the steps in the financial aid process. The instructions vary slightly depending on whether your child is:

If you have questions, please email Director of Financial Aid Allan Brown. We encourage you to read the brochures Penn Charter Financial Aid Information and the NAIS Family Guide to Financial Aid, viewable on this website using the link on the right, or available by request from the Admissions Office.

If your child is applying for admission to Penn Charter:

1. Deadlines:

  • 1st round: complete no later than January 5, 2018
  • 2nd round: complete no later than January 30, 2018
  • after January 30, 2018: complete with admissions application
[please note that only very limited financial aid remains after the 1st round of decisions]

2. Complete the Parents' Financial Statement as soon as possible after mid-November 2017. Earlier is better than later. The form is completed online at sss.nais.org. Penn Charter's code is 8218. Some tips about the SSS site:

  • Estimate financial data where necessary.
  • Penn Charter does not use SSS to collect supporting documents such as tax returns. All documents should be sent directly to Penn Charter. You do not need to send a copy of the completed PFS to Penn Charter.

3.  Send a copy of your latest federal 1040 tax return, likely 2016, along with W2 and all accompanying schedules to the Penn Charter Financial Aid Office.
4.  Send a copy of the final pay stub for 2017 that shows cumulated income for 2017 for each job worked for each financially responsible parent.
5.  If your income in 2018 will be markedly different than your income in 2017, please mail or email a note of explanation to Allan Brown.

Financial aid awards are not final until you submit your 2017 federal tax return, W2s and accompanying schedules. Penn Charter reserves the right to review any grant after receipt of the current tax return.

The Financial Aid Committee meets regularly, starting in January, to act on completed applications. Therefore, it is to your advantage to have completed the PFS online at SSS and sent all the forms to Penn Charter by the above deadlines to maximize the chances of being awarded financial aid.

If your child is a current Penn Charter student who does not receive financial aid in the 2017-18 school year:

1. Complete the short Financial Aid Application.  This lets Director of Financial Aid Allan Brown know to begin a file for your family.

2. Contact Allan Brown at ext. 147 or by email to discuss the circumstances that lead you to apply for financial aid.
