Giovanna DeMarco, a junior midfielder whose stellar season earned her All State honors, has made a verbal commitment to play college soccer at Wake Forest University.
The junior from Gwynedd Valley finished the season as MVP of the Inter-Ac with 23 goals and 6 assists, bringing her four-year Penn Charter record to 58 goals and 39 assists. DeMarco helped lead Penn Charter to two PAISAA state championships and three Inter-Ac Championships. Head Coach Darci Borski and her staff picked DeMarco as PC’s 2016 girls soccer MVP, and she is a three-time All Inter-Ac selection.
A stellar student, DeMarco has won school awards for character and scholarship in both her freshman and sophomore years: in ninth grade she received the William G. Shields 3rd Memorial Prize and in 10th grade the Henry A. Dresser Memorial Prize.
“Gi has been an exceptional player for our team over the past four years,” Borski said of DeMarco, who began playing on varsity in eighth grade. “She is a great leader who is extremely hard working, skilled, fit and tough. She has impacted our team in so many positive ways and has been instrumental in our success in establishing a top soccer program in the area.”
Outside of Penn Charter, DeMarco is active in youth soccer leagues, traveling nationally and internationally to compete with the Region One team. She is a member of top club team ECNL Match Fit Academy and Top Drawer ranked her the 2016 #4 midfielder regionally and #26 in the nation.
Penn Charter's other All State girl soccer player is Jlon Flippens, now a freshman at University of Maryland.
