Performing Arts Camp features exceptional instruction with professional actors, dancers, musicians and stage designers who love what they do! In addition to daily instruction in music, dance, drama and design, campers will have the opportunity to participate in a full-scale musicalLion King Jr. production, High School Musical, Jr. With the Kurtz Center for the Performing Arts as our home, campers will have access to all that this state-of-the-art facility has to offer. And see photos of the 2016 production of Lion King Jr.

Campers will begin each day in 45-minute classes learning about the craft of theater and developing their performance skills. Then, in the afternoon, they will launch into rehearsals or camp activities, or participate in weekly workshops. Our goal is for campers to have fun, develop confidence, make new friends and learn how to be better performers in the process. Join us this summer for a chance to sing, dance, act, create and perform!

About the Camp Director
Jessica Bender is the theater manager for the Kurtz Center for the Performing Arts at Penn Charter and has worked professionally as a teacher, director and choreographer for more than a dozen years. She has taught drama, film and dance, and has worked extensively in performing arts camps and day camps. In addition, she has directed with the Walnut Street Theatre, Arden Theatre Company, Temple University, Allens Lane Theater and Springside School, and has choreographed shows for MacGuffin Theatre and Film, LaSalle College High School, Holy Ghost Prep and the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus.

Lunch Option
Don't feel like packing lunch in the summertime? Try our lunch option. Campers will be served a nutritious and balanced meal with various choices. Daily offerings will include one entree (salad, sandwich or grill item) one small drink, and one snack or fruit. Cost: $6/day, $30/week. Campers are encouraged to sign up in advance if interested in this option, although cash “drop-ins” will be accepted. No refunds/credits for missed days/weeks. 

Transportation
Transportation can be provided for campers from Center City and some surrounding communities. However, our provisions for your child’s transportation do have limits. Once registration has been submitted, any changes to pickup and drop-off locations must be e-mailed well in advance, and a $25 administrative fee will be charged. Friends of campers may not ride the buses unless they have signed up in advance for transportation. We ask your cooperation in registering early for this extra service.
Round-trip $380/four weeks; one-way $190/four weeks

Extended-Day Program
Interested families may enroll in the extended-day option by indicating so

in the appropriate space on the application. Campers may enroll in the Early-Bird Program, the After-Camp Program or both. Families who need this service occasionally or in an emergency must contact the director, and cash payment must be received the day the service is provided.
Prices listed below apply to advanced registration only. Drop-ins accepted on a daily basis without registration for a cash fee of $15 per day, per program.

Early-Bird Program
Hours  Drop off any time between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m.
Cost  $6/day, $30/week

After-Camp Program
Hours  3:30-5:45 p.m. Pick up any time before 5:45 p.m.
Cost  $11/day, $55/week
Snack and supervised activities included. 
A late fee of $1 per minute will be charged for pick-up after 5:45 p.m.

2017 Enrollment Information for Day Camp, Sports Camp, Performing Arts Camp

Enrollment is limited, so please register early. A nonrefundable deposit of $100 per week enrolled in Day Camp or Sports Camp is due at the time of registration. For Performing Arts Camp, the nonrefundable deposit is $400. We accept credit card, money order, cash or check payable to William Penn Charter School. There is also a nonrefundable $25 registration fee for each applicant (whether attending one or multiple camps). Full payment is due by June 1. Payments made after June 1 must be in the form of credit card, money order or cash. A $25 administrative fee will be charged for any changes made to the application after it has been submitted, including transportation changes.

The camp fee covers all regularly scheduled activities, including camp T-shirt and Friday treats. Trips may involve additional costs. Campers who do not choose the lunch option must provide their own lunch, including a beverage. Ice cream is available for purchase in the afternoon.

Penn Charter Day Camp, Drone Camp, Sports Camp and Performing Arts Camp will be closed Tuesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

All campers must have a physical examination prior to camp. Print and complete this medical form for each camper and returned to the summer camp office before the first day of camp.
