Science Maker Camp
Register online! (Read Enrollment Information on the right.)
Does your child like to tinker? Is he/she interested in designing and building things? If so, the Maker Camp is the perfect place to spend the week.
July 24 - 28
Space is limited to 25 campers.
Steven Wade (aka “Science Steve”) a National Board-Certified Teacher and a member of Penn Charter’s science department and Lower School faculty, will be teaching this week-long maker camp. Wade has been teaching inquiry-based science for more than 20 years. He will be assisted by some terrific staff from Penn Charter’s Day Camp.
Campers will design, build and test a project with Little Bits that they can take home.
Discuss the engineering process and then research different ideas about possible projects. After visiting the new Idea Lab in Penn Charter’s Middle School, explore with Little Bits and begin to brainstorm project ideas.
Decide on a project and gather necessary materials. Begin construction of projects.
Continue construction of projects. Test out projects and make changes and test again.
Continue construction of projects and testing. Make final changes and/or modifications. Make a short video of your project to share.
Complete modifications and any directions. Share projects with the other campers.
Schedule includes daily free swim and recreational opportunities.
Don't feel like packing lunch in the summertime? Try our lunch option. Campers will be served a nutritious and balanced meal with various choices. Daily offerings will include one entree (salad, sandwich or grill item) one small drink, and one snack or fruit. Cost: $6/day, $30/week. Campers are encouraged to sign up in advance if interested in this option, although cash “drop-ins” will be accepted. The lunch option is not available for Junior Bunks (most three-, four- and five-year-olds). No refunds/credits for missed days/weeks.
Interested families may enroll in the extended-day option by indicating so in the appropriate space on the application. Campers may enroll in the Early-Bird Program, the After-Camp Program or both. Families who need this service occasionally or in an emergency must contact the director, and cash payment must be received the day the service is provided.
