Weekend Results for Indoor Track, Wrestling

Penn Charter's boys indoor track and wrestling teams were busy Saturday in quality events featuring competitors from well beyond the Inter-Ac League.

Yet again, the track guys headed to Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, and this time they were part of the Meet of Champions sponsored by the Track and Field Coaches Association of Greater Philadelphia.

Senior Akeem Blake was the headliner, placing second in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches) and third in the triple jump (45-8 1/2). His brother, Akeel, a freshman, grabbed seventh (6-2) and 11th (40-9 1/4) in those respective events while soph Patrick Gabor cleared 6-0 to tie for ninth in the HJ.

The other star was senior Chris Tucker, who placed third in the 60 dash (6.97 seconds) and sixth in the long jump (20-10 3/4).

Senior Dylan Burnett, a basketball captain, was impressive in the 60 hurdles, clocking 8.49 for sixth.

The Grapplin' Guys could be found at Malvern, participating in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Wrestling Tournament. They earned 89.5 points to finish eighth among 20 schools from around the state.

Junior Alex Koenig (152 pounds) and senior Billy Costello (HWT) came in fourth.

Places for others: soph TJ Henry (126, fifth), senior Gene Naumovsky (132, sixth), junior Jordan Steinhouse (120, seventh), frosh Jess Anderson (113, eighth), soph Sam Shemtov (138, eighth) and junior Dante DiStefano (182, eighth).
