PC Teams Go 5 for 5

inter-ac, penn charter, baseball, philadelphia private schoolThe games were completed little by little and the excitement never waned.

Tuesday, assorted Penn Charter varsity squads combined to go 1-2-3-4-5-for-5!

Even better, four of the scores wound up being close so coast-along mode was not an option.

Playing at home, baseball, which had dropped 10 in a row to nearby SCH Academy, carved out a 5-3 victory.

Senior Joey Lancellotti, hitting 95 MPH on scouts' radar guns, mowed down 13 Blue Devils while classmates Dom Toso (3-for-4, RBI) and Steve Lorenz (two RBI singles) paced the offense. Above, Brendan Pell makes tag at second on successful pickoff play. More baseball photos.

Up at SCH, softball claimed an 8-2 win thanks to two more seniors.

Faith Fenton went four innings for the win and lashed a two-out, two-run single. Brigitte Gutpelet thumped two homers, walked thrice and scored three runs.

The lacrosse squads also notched wins at SCH - boys by 11-9, girls by 14-12.

Senior Luke Stansfield racked up five goals while sophs Sam Keyser and Nick DiCicco offered two apiece.

Senior Macaul Mellor was a whirlwind with four goals, two assists and five draw controls. Classmate Courtney Cubbin added five scores and two DCs while junior Alexis Joseph (three goals, one assist) and soph Emma Wilson (two assists) lent strong support.

At Germantown Academy, boys tennis was a 5-2 winner.

Junior Ben Swanson and frosh Charlie Jordan-Weinstein were the singles bright lights. Filling that role in doubles were soph Tom Bradbeer/junior Alex Shipon, junior Jake Cutler/senior Tyler Schwartz and junior Josh Toll/senior Scott Hanson. The best winning numbers (6-2, 6-2) were turned in by Butler/Schwartz.

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
