Football Tops SCH, Improves to 7-1

Penn Charter's football team has put itself into position to sniff very rare air.

Though this squad includes just four returning starters, its overall record now stands at 7-1 following Saturday's 28-7 win over visiting SCH Academy.

Two games remain -- the next two Saturdays vs. Episcopal Academy, then Germantown Academy -- and coach Tommy Coyle's squad has a chance to become PC's first eight-game winner since 2006 and nine-game winner since 1905.

In this one, junior Edward Saydee carried 21 times for 153 yards and two TDs while senior John "Johnny Wash" Washington scored twice thanks to four catches for 115 yards. Their longest six-pointers covered 70 and 60 yards, respectively.

A strong defensive performance was highlighted by frosh Matthew Marshall (two sacks, fumble recovery, pictured above) and juniors Ryan Maloney (two sacks, one TFL) and Terence Thompson (two TFL).

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
