Community Service and Service Learning

Service Learning teaches students through active participation in thoughtfully organized service activities. These activities enrich the students’ lives, provide comfort or assistance to others, and express the Quaker commitment to peace, justice and social change.

Service Learning is part of our curriculum from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Fourth graders work side-by-side with students from the Widener Memorial School for the physically handicapped, bagging produce for a local food recovery agency. Sixth graders clear trash and plant gardens. Our service learning van is busy every day of the week bringing Upper School students to and from service projects where they tutor children, visit with the elderly and work to fight hunger.

The learning does not end when we put the van back in the garage. The people with whom we work are invited to our campus for lunch, for hikes along the Wissahickon, for athletic events and for an annual service carnival in their honor.

To learn more, read the brochure Community Service & Service Learning.
