Learn to Navigate the College Admission Landscape
The College Counseling Office is pleased to announce its annual College Keynote program for Upper School parents.
A date for the event (which was postponed from Feb. 9) will be announced soon.
The program is designed for 9th and 10th grade Penn Charter parents, but all PC parents are welcome.
"We are excited about the keynote again this year," said Director of College Counseling Daniel F. Evans. "Our program is strong and the college keynote featuring one of the country’s most reputable and recognized senior admissions officers enhances it further."
This year’s college keynote is Debra Shaver, dean of admission at Smith College. Shaver has been in college admissions for 35 years, and she has led the selection and recruitment of Smith’s student body since September 2003. She cites her experience as a parent guiding her son through the college process as her best professional development training. Shaver has spoken nationally about college admissions and has been recognized as a dynamic and humorous speaker on the role of parents in the college admission process. Topics that Shaver will discuss include:
- the current admission landscape and application trends
- helping parents to understand their ideal role in their students’ college search process
- the importance of self-assessment, in advance of creating college lists
- do’s and don’ts in the college process
Shaver will also hold a Q&A with parents.
We are happy to welcome Deb Shaver back to Penn Charter – her first visit in more than 20 years, and we look forward to seeing many parents at the event.
