Reece Whitley Sets National Record
Posted 02/26/2017 10:10AM

PC junior Reece Whitley broke a national high school record on the morning of Day 2 of the Eastern Invitational Swimming Championships – and in the finals that evening he broke his own hours-old record with a monster swim that again set a new record in the 100 breaststroke.

In the morning preliminaries, he blazed to a 52.35, besting the previous record of 52.65. In the finals that night Whitley clocked 51.84 to crunch his own national record.

Interviewed after that event by the Delaware County Daily Times, Reece called the event "the most emotional swim I've ever had." He'd been thinking about breaking a national mark, he added, since his freshman year.

According to SwimSwam.comReece's time is "good enough to compete with the best of the best. His 51.84 would’ve placed 3rd in the championship final at the 2016 NCAA meet."

Reece's performance this weekend earned him his third straight Easterns male swimmer of the meet award.

PC SportsZone has the details on the meet.
