Interdisciplinary study is significant to the 6th grade art curriculum. It is important that students sense a contiuous connection through their subjects throughout their first Middle School year. Most specifically, the visual arts are matched with the Mathematics department when instruction on griding and enlarging drawin images occurs; with Social Studies as part of the Ancient Civilizations Museum project when students research and create artifacts; and Science through the exploration of environmental art and the study of environmental artists and their work. Students also create book illustrations for novels read in language art courses, and study the work of artists from the core foreign languages of French, Spanish and Latin.
