Eating Well at PC

Healthy Eating

At Penn Charter, we encourage healthy eating by offering:

whole fruits and vegetables
whole grain products
leaner proteins
fewer concentrated sugars and white-flour products
no trans-fats

Good Food: Did You know?

Penn Charter has not served white rice for approximately two years. Brown rice is our choice because this whole grain is a healthier choice.

Stewardship: Did You Know?

All the apples and honey we served last year were locally grown. Other local products served in the dining hall include: honey, apple cider, milk, eggs, cucumbers, onions, carrots, eggplant, potatoes, squash, lettuce, corn, tomatoes, strawberries, peaches, nectarines, raspberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, nectarines, watermelon, cantaloupe, collard greens, and peppers.

Your Feedback

We are interested in your menu suggestions as well as feedback (positive and negative!) from you or your child on food that you've eaten in the dining hall.

We Buy Local

We continue to look for PA local farmers to educate us or sell us their products. Buying local conserves fossil fuel because the products are transported shorter distance, the products are fresher, and we know how they were produced. Plus, we're supporting the local economy. We partner with:
Merrymead Farm, Lansdale

Frecon Fruit Farm, Boyertown, Pa.
Elvin Burkholder, Fleetwood, Pa.
Koch's Turkey Farm, Tamaqua, Pa.
Sandy Ridge Farm, Elizabethtown, Pa.
Muth Family Farm, Williamstown, N.J.
Weavers Orchard, Morgantown, Pa.
Flaim Farms, Vineland, N.J.
Buzby Farm, Woodstown, N.J.
Landisville Produce Coop, Landisville, N.J.
Cassaday Farm, Monroeville, N.J.
Local Pastures, Wallingford, Pa.
