"Happiness of the Next Generation"
From 1712 to 1765, Penn Charter Board members–known at that time as Overseers–recorded their minutes in this book. The first minute, from the meeting in October 1712, states:
"The said Charter of Incorporation being Read was received with Grateful Acknowledgment to the Proprietor, for his Favorable care in Regard to the Welfare of this place in the Education of the Youth of it, on which the Happiness of the next Generation does principally depend."
The lineage of Penn Charter Board members is shown below, dating back to 1711 when William Penn signed a charter creating the group.
