Meet PC's New Director of Security and Transportation

Penn Charter is delighted to announce the appointment of Brendan Lee as Penn Charter’s new director of security and transportation.

Brendan comes to Penn Charter with a wealth of knowledge and over 20 years of experience in organizational security, safety protocols and crisis management, both in the K-12 school sector and the corporate sector. He joins us most recently from Allied Universal, where he served as security account manager, responsible for the facility security team at Lincoln Financial Field and the NovaCare Complex for the Philadelphia Eagles, since 2021.

Prior to his tenure at Allied Universal, Brendan served as executive director of school safety at the Philadelphia School District for over 16 years. His responsibilities included managing the school police department, overseeing the implementation of the School Safety Act (PA Act 44), establishing goals and conducting analysis of departmental operations and using data to determine best safety practices for all schools. During his tenure, Brendan was responsible for the safety and security for the over 200 schools and approximately 143,000 students in the Philadelphia School District. He served as the point of contact and was responsible for the full rollout of the Safe2Say program for the entire School District of Philadelphia. Brendan developed innovative strategies and new security approaches, including school-based community policing and single school culture, that increased safety in schools and helped foster an environment where students and teachers can learn and grow together. He also served as a member of the Grant Committee, helping to procure and oversee the monitoring of Federal Law Enforcement-based grants.

Brendan received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Temple University. Early in his career, he worked as a police officer with the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD), and during his 20-year tenure with the PPD, Brendan helped spearhead minority recruitment and was a member of both the homeland security and dignitary protection details. For over 15 years, Brendan also served as program coordinator for the Police Athletic League (PAL), an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Philadelphia’s underserved youth, offering athletic, learning and cultural programs that promote positive character development and improve educational outcomes. During his time with the PAL, Brendan was responsible for managing operations for the City of Philadelphia, coordinating programming for the 30 PAL centers in Philadelphia and managing the facilities for all sites.

A professional committed to community and relationship building, Brendan has a deep understanding and respect for Quaker education, as three of his children are graduates of Friends’ Central School in Wynnewood, Pa.

We are fortunate to have Brendan’s expertise and knowledge in crisis management, safety protocols and community engagement, which will be instrumental in strengthening our security framework. He will be deeply involved in supporting our revised Emergency Operation Plan, and spearhead upcoming initiatives. His proactive approach and collaborative spirit will ensure that Penn Charter remains a safe and supportive environment for all students, faculty and families.

Regarding Brendan and his professionalism and dedication, a former colleague and manager at Allied Universal/Philadelphia Eagles shared, “Brendan left a positive mark on our team and we are excited for his new opportunity at Penn Charter.  A true professional, his dedication and hard work will be greatly missed.”

In anticipation of his new role, Brendan shared, “I am excited to begin my role as Director of Security and Transportation and to be part of the Penn Charter family. I look forward to working with a great team in providing a safe and welcoming environment to our school community.”

Please join us in welcoming Brendan to Penn Charter when he begins his tenure this coming Monday, January 13.
