Penn Charter Summer Camps adds new one-week camps to the mix this year, complementing its returning favorites: Day, Sports, Performing Arts and Varsity camps.
Shutterbug Photography Camp
Experience the magic of capturing the world through a camera lens.
Young photographers to the magic of capturing the world through a camera lens. Campers will discover how a camera works, explore fun photography-based crafts and activities, and learn the basics of good photography practices, including composition, lighting and perspective.
Through hands-on exploration, campers will venture across campus and into the beautiful Wissahickon to find inspiration, collaborate with peers and let their creativity shine. Each day will offer opportunities to experiment with different styles of photography, from nature shots to portraits, and share their work in a supportive environment. Whether they’re snapping photos of a scenic trail or crafting a unique photo project, campers will build confidence, develop new skills, and leave with a portfolio of memories and newfound passion for photography.
Debate Camp
Debate About It! Explore philosophy and the art of argumentation.
Dive into the exciting world of debate and philosophy. This camp introduces young thinkers to the art of forming strong arguments, discussing ethics, and exploring philosophical ideas in a way that’s both developmentally appropriate and fun. Through lively discussions, campers will learn the skills to express their thoughts clearly, listen actively and respect diverse perspectives.
Our camp combines creative games, playful role-playing activities, and interactive exercises to make learning about debate and philosophy dynamic and enjoyable. Campers will build confidence, critical thinking skills and teamwork as they delve into thought-provoking topics, all while having fun and making new friends.
Singing, Recorders and Ukeleles Camp
Singing, Recorders and Ukes, Oh My!
A fun-filled weeklong summer music camp where campers will explore the world of music through the ukulele, the recorder and their voices! This camp is perfect for students ages 8-9 who love to sing, make music and try out new instruments. By the end of camp, you'll have learned how to play a new instrument, improved your singing skills, and made awesome memories with new friends through the joy of music. Whether you're a beginner or already a little musical pro, there's something for everyone in this musical adventure!
Creative Crafting Camp
Provide a fun and creative outlet for young makers.
Campers will have the opportunity to explore their artistic side through a variety of craft projects, including candle making and soap making. Throughout the week, campers will learn the basics of candle and soap making, including how to select and blend fragrances, pour and set wax and soap, and create unique designs. In addition to these hands-on projects, campers will also have the chance to participate in other craft activities, such as painting and drawing. Not only will campers create and take home their own handmade products, but they will also learn about the science behind these crafts and develop important skills such as problem solving, creativity and attention to detail. We can't wait to see what creative projects our campers come up with!
Dungeons and Dragons Camp
Embark on an imaginative journey filled with creativity, collaboration and storytelling.
Dungeons and Dragons Camp invites adventurers to dive into the world of tabletop role-playing games! Campers will embark on an imaginative journey filled with creativity, collaboration and storytelling. They'll learn the basics of D&D, including creating unique characters, building captivating worlds and mastering the rules of the game. Guided by experienced Dungeon Masters, participants will put their skills to the test in an engaging campaign full of twists, challenges and surprises.
And back by popular demand!
In Stop-Motion Animation, campers will create a short stop-motion animated film from start to finish. They will work together to develop a story, write a script, create characters, scenery and backdrops, and film a stop motion animation frame by frame. After filming is complete, campers will become voice actors, and add the dialogue to their film. The final film will be screened on the last day of camp, with families and friends welcome to attend.
Skateboarding Camp is an immersive intro to the sport, promoting camaraderie and skill development in a safe and fun setting. Through interactions with local skateboarders, skate shops and skateparks, campers will gain insights into the skateboarding community, inspiring them to explore the culture and history of the sport.
Good Eats Camp: The Science Behind Food combines artistry with chemistry. Learn about the science behind the dishes — molecules interacting with other molecules, creating the combinations of taste and texture that are sure to please.
