Third Grade Change Cultivator Project

On March 15, third graders exercised their voices, choices and creativity in front of engaged family members, friends, faculty and staff for the Change Cultivator Project. Forty-seven third grade students showcased their research on famous historical figures who have positively impacted the world. The historical figures were grouped into four categories: environmentalists, humanitarians, barrier breakers and entertainers.

After several weeks of research, the students wrote a report, drew a portrait and wrote a monologue from the person's perspective. They also recorded their monologue using the online voice recorder Vocaroo, captured in a QR code. Additionally, all students created and exhibited an "artifact" related to the person they researched.

Formerly known as the third grade wax museum, the newly reformatted event was held in the Graham Athletics & Wellness Center. Guests were invited to experience the “gallery walk” where they could view the student’s artistic portraits and scan a QR code to listen to the monologue, stepping into the shoes of the historical figure. Then, they proceeded to the next room to view and listen to the students' work. Some of the notable figures highlighted were Cherelle Parker, Mahatma Gandhi, Harriet Tubman and Chico Mendes.

Congratulations to our innovative and thoughtful students who have shown their ability to be courageous learners and change cultivators.
