Penn Charter students, joined by students from several nearby independent schools, have showcased their musical talents in two different concerts this month.
On Thursday, March 16, independent schools from the area came to Penn Charter to perform in the Independent School Jazz Festival. Schools represented were Germantown Friends School, Germantown Academy, The Shipley School and the Middle School and Upper School Jazz Bands from Penn Charter. The festival showcased the talent of students in grades 6-12 of the Independent Schools and was an opportunity to not only be entertained by fellow students but learn from other groups as well. Upper School Band Director Brad Ford said, "It was wonderful to have the neighboring schools come to Penn Charter for the Jazz Fest. It was great to see the other groups and was also a wonderful chance to show off the exceptional talents of the Middle School and Upper School Jazz Bands here at Penn Charter. All groups were terrific and it was a very successful night for all." Next years jazz fest will be hosted by Shipley.
Penn Charter's annual Small Ensemble concert featured Middle and Upper School students for a relaxed and joyful presentation of talent. Parents and friends enjoyed the Middle School Percussion Ensemble, songs from the Chamber Singers, a group of fourth, fifth and sixth grade singers, the seventh and eighth grade Sharped Flats, Quakers Dozen, and pieces by the Upper School String Ensemble and Brass Ensemble. Upper School Girls A Cappella performed with the Penn Charter Step Team in an exciting combination. See photos on Flickr.
The Band and Choral Concerts will be held in mid-May, followed by the Lower School Spring Concert in late May.
