Spring Sports Return in March

Spring Sports Return in March

We are pleased to announce plans for the beginning of the spring sports season and look forward to seeing our athletes playing on the fields again. Schedules will be posted on the website soon.

Of course, everything depends on our continued work to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Please recommit to our team and community compact: continue to social distance, wear your mask and practice good hand hygiene.

Covid Screening/Testing

As an added layer of mitigation, Penn Charter will obtain a Covid-19 baseline surveillance screening of all spring athletes prior to the start of spring practices.

On Monday, March 1, PC will offer free, on-campus PCR saliva testing, between the hours of 2:15 and 4:00 p.m., in Dooney Field House.

Any spring athlete who cannot attend the March 1 testing must acquire an outside PCR Covid-19 test, 3-4 days prior to the start of practice, in order to participate.  Please submit any independent testing to covidsupport@penncharter.com. The Covid rapid antigen test will not be accepted as a substitute for a PCR test.

Student athletes who test positive for Covid-19 will be required to quarantine from school as per the Athletics Health & Safety Plan: Spring 2021

During the month of March, those teams playing high-risk contact sports (boys and girls lacrosse) will participate in weekly Covid surveillance testing. Students who miss the weekly testing day will not be permitted to participate in athletic practices or competitions until a negative testing result is independently provided to the school.

Getting Started

Providing a timely return of our test results, and weather permitting, on-campus practice will begin on Friday, March 5. Coaches may meet virtually with teams before that date. On Friday, PC emailed students in grades 9-12 a survey in which to indicate their interest in playing a spring sport.

We will maintain our current protocols each day for practices and games. Here are a few reminders for all student athletes:

Check-in for daily practices will be held at Dooney Field House. All spring athletes should report to check-in before heading to your practice locations.

  • All athletes will continue to complete the Athletics Daily Participation Form for all practices.
  • Distance Learning students will also need to have the CrisisGo screening completed before arrival on campus for practice.
  • For practices on Saturdays and/or days when we are virtual learning, all students must complete both the Athletics Daily Participation Form and the Crisis Go Screening.
  • Please come dressed for all practices; there are no locker rooms available home or away.
  • Remember to bring extra masks to all practices.

We are working with the Inter-Ac League to develop game protocols to keep our athletes, coaches, officials and spectators as safe as possible.

Live Streaming

Penn Charter will stream as many home events as possible. More detailed information will be shared prior to games. Away games will be streamed by the host school, and we will share a link, when it becomes available, on penncharter.com and on Twitter @wpcsports.

Spectator Policy

We will communicate our spectator policy soon. That policy will reflect the current guidelines of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health; if disease levels improve, the policy could be revised to allow for more spectators.
