Two PC Hoopsters Reach 1000-Point Milestone

Two PC girls basketball seniors scored their 1000th career points just minutes apart during Friday's 65-28 win over Springside Chestnut Hill. Kait Carter and Carmen Williams were briefly honored by their teammates, coach Joe Maguire and Director of Athletics John Thiel as each crossed the 1000-point threshold during the second quarter. Check out Ted Silary's coverage of this special occasion. The duo also led the scoring for the day, with Carter putting up 16 and Williams 11 on the way to a dominant Inter-Ac win for the Quakers, now 2-0 in the league. Kelsey Bess (10), Aleah Snead (8), Bella Toomey (8) and Amani Rivers (7) played strong offense for Penn Charter, and the scoring was rounded out by Janae Stewart (2), India Barnes (2) and Maddi Shoup (1). The Quakers notched 29 steals to the Blue Devils' nine on their way to another confident Inter-Ac win. They travel to GA on Tuesday, Jan. 7 for a 5:30 game.

On Friday, boys basketball had an easy time of it at Franklin Learning Center, where they came out on the winning end of a 78-45 game. With senior captain Ryan Holmes sitting out, the Quakers demonstrated great depth as the team's underclassmen stepped up to get the job done. Freshman Keith Gee led with 19 points, freshman Trey Shinholster had 17, senior Aaron Reisman added 15 — all three-pointers — and freshman Colin Schumm added 14. Mark Butler, another freshman, chipped in six. The Quakers blazed to a 23-3 lead by the end of the first quarter and were up 50-16 at halftime.

On Saturday, the boys put up a good fight but lost to the Academy of the New Church 83-60 after the formidable ANC offense outscored them each quarter. Butler paced the Quakers with 16 points, Reisman had 13 and Shinholster 11. Gee (6) and Schumm (5) both made a dent, and seniors Eli Ragland (5) and Jameson Ford (2) got on the board for the Quakers. Next, Charter hosts Malvern on Tuesday, Jan. 7 for league play at 4 pm in Dooney Field House.

Wrestling went 1-1 this weekend in a tournament at LaSalle College High. In their first event of the day, the Quakers fell to LaSalle 54-25. Despite winning five of six bouts, the Quakers were outnumbered by the Explorers and lost on forfeits. George Glomb, Jess Anderson and James Glomb won by fall, Matt McGlinchey won by decision (6-0), and Tyler Mangan won by major decision (9-0) to earn the Quakers' points. In the second match of the day, the PC squad beat Archbishop Wood 30-19. George Glomb won by fall in 54 seconds, Jess Anderson won by fall in 2:54, and Tyler Mangan took his opponent down in 2:27. The boys travel to the Haverford School onFriday, Jan. 10 for a league tournament.
