PC Student Creates Inspirational Film about Public School
Penn Charter junior Andy Nguyen used his videocamera and his curiosity to create an inspirational film about the students and teachers at Widener Memorial School, a Philadelphia public school for students with physical and medical disabilities.
Beginning in the last school year and through the fall, Nguyen spent more than 200 hours filming and editing “A Day in the Life of Widener,” a 14-minute film that tells the story of the remarkable students and teachers at this Philadelphia public school.
“I was inspired by the students. They face so many challenges and they are so positive,” he explained.
Nguyen’s goal was not only to make the film but make sure that it is seen by people who can come to appreciate and perhaps support Widener, its faculty and its students.
Nguyen has presented the film to the Widener community; he spoke and showed the movie to the Penn Charter faculty and staff; and he will present it in mid-March to the Philadelphia School Reform Commission. His film has been featured for several weeks on the homepage of the website of the Philadelphia public school district.
