My Sustain Investigation asks the question, “How can I incorporate past memories and photos with new colors and photos by blending them together to create something new?” First I printed photos from my camera, collaged or drew them. Then using vibrant oil pastels I expanded beyond the photographs and created something new. Later in my investigation, I experimented with a material I was not that comfortable with: acrylic paints on canvas. At the beginning my Sustained Investigation was difficult to express, and prior to exploring different materials, my question was not broad enough. After completing a few pieces, experimenting and trying to have fun, I could revise my Sustained Investigation. I practiced with the same materials to gain new skills. At the start I was collagging a lot , however I couldn’t get exactly what I wanted, nor could I feel a connection with my art. Eventually I realized that I really enjoyed using my own photos and colors to express different emotions.
