We empower students to use technology for inquiry, research, collaboration and presentation — building the skills needed for rigorous upper school work and their own intellectual pursuits. Through our Ninth Grade Seminar, students develop a strong foundation, and many go on to study computer science, learning to code, build their own tools, and explore AI and beyond.

We also believe technology should bring us together, not pull us apart. We coach students to use it intentionally and manage their time online with confidence.

Advanced Studies Computer Science Classes

Our two-course Advanced Studies sequence builds a strong computer science foundation. Computer Science Principles establishes the core knowledge needed to succeed in Computer Science Programming — a flexible course where students can dive into one programming language for a semester or explore two over the full year.

Applied Computer Science Classes

In these semester-long courses, students apply computer science concepts to real-world projects. With rotating themes — including game design, mobile app development, AI, cybersecurity and data science — students can explore new territory each semester.

Curriculum Highlights

  • Technology use and coding is a component of the required multifaceted Ninth Grade Seminar, which all students take. 
  • In our Advanced Studies: Computer Science Principles course, students learn to build apps, animations and other digital projects while exploring the profound impact of computing and technology on our world. 
  • Tenth, 11th and 12th grade students have a choice of various computer science electives, including Web Coding, iOS App Development, Python and Java.
  • Students with a particular passion in the field of computer science may work with the department chair to design an independent study that suits their skill level and interests.
