How to Apply to Upper School
Applying to Penn Charter is a simple and straightforward process, and the following information will help guide you through the steps.
Online applications are easy, environmentally friendly and economical.
Decide if you plan to complete an application for first-round consideration by Dec. 15, 2018 or second-round consideration by Feb. 4, 2019. The greatest availability of spaces for new students is in the first round. If you plan to apply for financial aid, we strongly recommend completing your child's application in the first round.
Submit the application for admission online and look for an email acknowledging its receipt the next business morning.
For 9th Grade:
Decide if you plan to complete an application by Dec. 7, 2018 for first-round consideration or by Jan, 22, 2019 for second-round consideration. The greatest availability of spaces for new students is in the first round. If you plan to apply for financial aid, we strongly recommend completing your child's application in the first round.
For 10th and 11th Grade:
Applications completed by Feb. 4, 2019 will be considered in the first round of decisions for 10th and 11th grades. The first report card of the current year is required to complete the application. If you plan to apply for financial aid, we strongly recommend completing the financial aid requirements by the Jan. 4, 2019 deadline.
Campus Visit: Interview, Parent Meeting & Shadow Day
A parent meeting and student interview are required for all applicants to the Upper School. These appointments are offered on school days and some evenings and weekends. School day appointments can include a campus tour by request. Shadow days are available on many school days, and applicants are encouraged to reserve a space.
It is important that the teacher recommendations not be completed by your child’s teachers until late October. We believe that teachers should be given time to work with your child during the current school year in order to provide us with appropriate feedback about your child’s abilities. Instructions for submitting teacher recommendations.
Release for School Records Form
After your child's school's first marking period, this form should be completed and signed by the parent/guardian and sent to the current school. For applicants to 9th grade, the official transcript should include prior years' grades and the first marking period of the current year, if available. For applicants to 10th and 11th grades, the official transcript should include prior years' grades as well as the first marking period of the current year. Please have the school send the records directly to Penn Charter. Parents download and print the form.
