Testing Information and Suggested Providers
The Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-4th Edition (WPPSI-IV) is administered to young children, and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-5th Edition (WISC-V) to ages 6 and above. The Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual Motor Integration (VMI) is also administered only to kindergarten applicants.
These evaluations will give us a clearer understanding of a child’s intellectual abilities and learning style. It is the responsibility of the parents to arrange for this testing and to see that the results are sent to the Admissions Office.
Penn Charter requires the following tests, depending on the grade a child is entering:
Pre-K: No testing required
Kindergarten: WPPSI and Beery VMI
First: WPPSI or WISC depending on the age of the child
Second-Fifth: WISC
We offer a list of suggested testing facilities and will accept reports of Wechsler tests administered within the last two years by a licensed psychologist or a certified school psychologist. We encourage families for whom the cost of testing is prohibitive to email Kaila Mu'min, Associate Director of Lower School Admissions, for assistance.
