I have so many favorite parts of being in Middle School. While I enjoy all of my classes, the one that stands out the most to me is English. I love writing poems, reading books and writing stories. My English classroom has many colorful posters and quotes on the walls that help keep us motivated throughout the day. This year in English, we have read Fever 1793, The Outsiders, The Giver, and Red Scarf Girl. Now that it is the end of the year, I can see how far I have come. I can see that my paragraphs have gotten longer and my grammar has improved. I have also learned how to better outline and write a paper more efficiently. I know that I am a better student because of the teachers and resources that Penn Charter provides students to help us progress.
Another part of Middle School that I love is being involved with PC Athletics. I have participated in three sports so far: soccer, basketball and lacrosse. Out of all three, lacrosse has been my favorite.
During practice, we usually stretch and do fun drills to strengthen the skills that we are focusing on that day. We always end practice with a 7 vs. 7 to get stronger as a team and to maintain our skills. As a student new to Penn Charter, joining these teams helped me to make great friends. I have been able to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things. Overall, Middle School Athletics has been a great experience for me.
A great part of the Middle School experience is that it is very easy to join new clubs. In the beginning of the year, students have the option to just show up to a variety of first club meetings to see if they may be interested. If you do not think that it fits you after trying it out, you can always try something else. This also means that you can join a new club at any point if you are interested. I joined Art Club, Painting Club and Green Club this year. Each of these clubs has allowed me to explore some of my passions. In Painting Club, I got to tap into my more creative side. As a group, we decided to paint a mural for the plain white wall in the sixth grade hallway. We worked together to come up with our idea, and ultimately decided on a forest theme. Everyone participated in the design and completion of the project. In the end, it looked great!
Green Club was also so much fun! We focused on a lot of topics, such as the environment, animals, recycling, conservation and so much more. One of our projects this year was to organize a fundraiser to support a local dog shelter. We had a “carnival” inside the Middle School during lunch. We had a bunch of games like basketball, raffles, bean-bag throwing and bone throwing. We had set a goal of raising $100, but quickly surpassed that number. I love all of the clubs that I joined because I had the chance to learn new things and meet new people. I will definitely miss attending my club meetings over the summer.
After looking back on all of my experience in Middle School, I can see how much I have progressed throughout the year. I know that I am looking forward to continuing to play sports, joining new clubs and attending even more events next year!
