About
Jake Nicastro is an award-winning, 23 year-old independent filmmaker, editor, actor, and visual artist based out of the Los Angeles area. Born in Drexel Hill, PA, Jake studied English and Screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University and is currently pursuing a Masters of Film Production at the University of Southern California.
Inspired by artists such as Hiro Murai, Spike Jonze, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and more, Jake is dedicated to telling off-kilter, surreal stories through a timeless DIY-lens. He works to combine the rhythmic experimentation of his music videos with the unique and poetic plot structures studied and written as an English and Screenwriting student. Short films like "Marvelon" (2017), "there was a night when it was highly cosmic" (2021), and "The Goop Exchange" (2022) have been awarded and nominated at festivals around the globe, while his music videos have garnered thousands of views working as the Video Coordinator for Nothing Iconic Records. He has also done work filming live concerts and shooting promotional video for artists. Jake also specializes in analog shooting, editing, transitioning footage to digital, working with video synths, and more.
As a development producer at The Workshop Content Studios, Jake strives to uncover new stories and perspectives for unscripted television while also offering help editing with the post-production team. Here, he has helped work on projects like The Charlie Rymer Golf Show, ChefSwap at The Beach, and more. As a production assistant for FOX Sports in their Highlights department, Jake worked on logging games, developing scripts for on-air talent to read, and organizing key plays from each event. Overall, he is drawn to telling stories and perspectives that are not normally seen in experimental ways that are not normally seen.
