OPCs in the News

Joe Torg OPC '53, orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine pioneer, accepted the Philanthropist of the Year award from the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals for his longstanding generosity to Penn Charter, Haverford College and Temple University.

 

J.D. Dillard OPC '06 will have his second appearance at the Sundance Film Festival, this time with his film Sweetheart.

 

Schooled, created by Adam Goldberg OPC '94, premieres on ABC on Jan. 9, after The Goldbergs. Adam's new series focuses on the lives of teachers at "William Penn Academy."

 

Thomas Lendvay OPC '91, pediatric urologist at Seattle Children's Hospital and professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Washington, was recently honored by University of Washington Medicine as the 2018 Inventor of the Year.

 

Michael Hnatkowsky OPC '17 and John Washington OPC '18 have played a major role in the Muhlenberg University football team's historic season. 

 

Ruben Amaro Jr. OPC '83 recently appeared on the podcast "Philadelphia Baseball: Past, Present, & Personal," hosted by former Penn Charter faculty member Bill Kashatus.

 

Ray Benson OPC '69 is featured in an interview about his band's new album New Routes.

 

Sierra Tishgart OPC '08, co-founder of new cookware brand Great Jones, shared a family recipe with the New York Times Style Magazine.

 

Shanin Specter OPC '75 authored an opinion piece reflecting on the recent passing of former president George H.W. Bush.

On Nov. 17, the Penn Charter Ethics Bowl team advanced to the semifinal round of the regional High School Ethics Bowl at Villanova University.

Naveena Bembry ran into her former third grade student Jordan Studevan OPC '09 at the NAIS People of Color Conference in Nashville, Tenn. Jordan is the assistant director of college counseling at St. Mark's School in Southborough, Mass.
