Bike to School with a Bike Train
Wednesday, May 1 This year for our spring bike trains, we are offering two pathways. One bike train will run along Germantown Ave, starting at Trolley Car Diner at 7619 Germantown Ave; and the second will start in Center City at 1 Boathouse Row, where we will ride along the Schuylkill River Trail. Please read details (including a van to bring riders up the hill!) and sign up, and feel free to contact Michael Moulton or Tom Rickards with any questions. All-School Art Show Opens Wednesday
Opening Reception: Wednesday, May 1, 3:30-7:30 pm, Old Gym The All-School Art Show, Art in Bloom, features work from all Lower and Middle School students and Upper School visual arts students. We invite you to the opening reception to enjoy light refreshments, fun activities for our younger guests and music from our student ensemble. Come with your artist and mingle with fellow parents, classmates and teachers. Gallery hours, May 1-9, are 3:30-5:00 pm; or request an appointment with Joy Lai. We still need parent monitors during gallery hours, as well as food contributions for the receptions. Please sign up to help out.

Wednesday, May 1, 8:15-9:30 am, Timmons House For our last Parent Community meeting of the school year, our guest speakers will be together on a panel for the first time: Kate McCallum, Wilson Felter and Erin Hughes — respectively the directors of the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools. Parent Community division leadership will each provide a review of the year and their visions for the future. There will be plenty of time for Q&A. As always, we will provide information about our upcoming end-of-year events such as the plant sale and Color Day, and there will be plenty of food, coffee and conversation with parents from all divisions. Thursday, May 2, 8:15-8:45 am; Meeting Room (Main Building, 2nd floor) Join other parents and the Parent Quakerism co-chairs in a silent Friends Meeting for Worship, similar to what our children experience each week. Come experience 30 minutes of silent reflection (interrupted only if someone is moved to speak). Service Opportunities Tree House Books Book Drive Through May 2 Tree House Books provides free books to children and families, as well as programs that increase literacy skills. Penn Charter's book drive to support the efforts of our community partner welcomes gently-used or new books for newborns through 18 years and will be collecting through Thursday, May 2. Collection boxes are in each division. The books will be delivered by one of our Middle School advisory groups during the Middle School Day of Service. Please contact the Center for Public Purpose with any questions. Moving Homeless Families Sunday, April 28, 12:30-2:30 pm We need your help moving families who are experiencing homelessness. We will start at one of PIHN's homes, 201-203 E. Church Lane, and move families to First Presbyterian Church of Germantown at 35 W. Chelten Ave. All ages and grades welcome! Please sign up. Parent Community Plant Sale Wednesday, May 8 through Friday, May 10, Lower School Lobby The annual spring plant sale is returning just in time for Mother's Day, stocked with fragrant flowers, herbs, vegetables, succulents and orchids. At the gift wrap table, children can add their special touch for their gifts to Mom, Grandmom, teacher or a special friend. With every sale, you will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a beautiful arrangement. New and exciting this year: tropical terrariums made by PC's own Susan Goodman. Susan will also be leading a workshop, May 8, 9-10 am, on how to plant and care for succulents. For a $10 donation, you can take home your creation with the provided supplies. We will discuss what brain research tells us about how we learn best, and we will also explore practical applications for students and study skills that can help learning really stick. Parent Forum Tuesday, April 30, 8:15-9:15 am, Balderston Commons Please join us for the final MS Parent Forum of the school year. At the session, we will share the schedule for final exams, discuss strategies to help students prepare effectively and efficiently, and then open the floor for parent questions about any Middle School-related topics. Field Hockey Clinic: Grades 1-6 Saturday, May 4, 10 am-12 pm, Perrot Field This clinic is an introduction to the game of field hockey for girls who are interested in learning more about the sport or who are ready to improve their hockey skills. There will be opportunities to play mini games on Penn Charter's turf field. Instructors are PC field hockey coaches Alice Bateman and Tracy McLafferty. Equipment (including hockey sticks) will be provided for the clinic. Players should wear sneakers, bring a water bottle, and come prepared to play! $20 fee includes a snack, mouth guard, and a field hockey ball. Friday, April 26, 5-7 pm, Field House (NEW LOCATION) Mother Nature is digging her heels in with the whole "April showers bring May flowers" thing, which is forcing us to move Family Fun Night into the Dooney Field House. We will still have great music, games and treats, so don't miss out!
If you haven't already, you can sign up to volunteer. And don't forget to bring a few dollars for dinner so the Senior Grill Squad can raise some money for this year's prom. To keep everyone entertained until the fun starts at Family Fun Night, we will be showing Toy Story in the Choral Room at the Kurtz Center beginning at 3:15 pm.
