Parent Tutorial: How to Sync School Calendars to Your Calendar
Get organized for 2020! Watch this 2-minute video to learn how to sync school calendars (All-School, Lower School, your student's game calendar, etc.) with your personal calendar. The example in the video is the new Center for Public Purpose calendar. Never miss a service event! Parent Community Meeting Tuesday, Jan. 14, 8:15 am, Timmons House Head of School Darryl J. Ford will discuss the personnel news he shared with parents in his email of Dec. 19, followed by a presentation about the school year's theme of Honoring the Light Within. Breakfast with the Head of School Wednesday, Jan. 15, 8:30-9:30 am; Timmons House Head of School Darryl J. Ford welcomes parents to join him in an open discussion about Penn Charter. Unlike a Parent Community meeting with a set agenda, the discussion at the head's breakfast is guided by the interests of participating parents. Senior Comprehensive Project: Volunteer Opportunity Penn Charter's Senior Comprehensive Project (SCP) is off and running. Students are beginning to solidify the organizations, people and places they need for their senior projects. A successful SCP involves student initiative and self-discipline, as well as participation from members of the community. If you're interested in being part of the SCP, we are looking for parents to be on-site project supervisors/mentors for students, facilitators for workshops on public speaking and/or presentation design and much more. Please fill out this short form if you're interested. If we all work together, this could be one of the most rewarding experiences students will have in high school. Center for Public Purpose: Weekly Updates Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service: Please Join Us! Monday, Jan. 20, 8:30 am-12 pm We hope you will join us to honor Martin Luther King's legacy, learn about our community partners and engage in activities to support their important work. Lower and Middle School students must be accompanied by an adult. Please register. We hope to see you there! Help make someone's day a little sweeter and donate homemade baked goods for MLK Day. Individually wrapped treats will the added to the bagged lunches that will be packed by students on MLK Day. Please sign up and drop off on Friday, Jan. 17. We will be collecting donations leading up to the day and need your support. Holiday Drive Follow-Up and Thank You Thank you to the entire PC community for your support of the annual holiday drive. We supported over 45 families from Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network and Philadelphia's Taylor Bayard Elementary School. In addition, the Holiday Basketball Tournament raised significant additional funds for PIHN that will support its important services for families experiencing homelessness. Once a year, all of Penn Charter's smaller musical groups come together to entertain our community at this popular performance. Our multitalented young musicians will sing and play themselves into your heart with a splendid and varied selection of pop, rock, oldies, a cappella, current, swing, sacred, flashy and delightful hits. Did you know that swim lessons are offered year-round at Penn Charter on Sundays? We offer both group and private swim lessons for people ages 18 months through adult weekly at the Penn Charter pool. Girls on the Run (Grades 3-5) Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-4:30 pm, March 3-May 31, 2020 Lower School will continue its chapter of Girls on the Run, a nationally acclaimed program that offers a 10-week program designed to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles for girls. Kellyn Zeuner and Clare Dolan will lead the program at PC. Registration is open through Jan. 26. A computer-generated lottery will be run on Monday, Jan. 27 to select 15 girls for the Penn Charter GOTR team. Registration fee is $175.
