Penn Charter offers weekly testing for faculty members who wish it and is testing winter athletes weekly in sports with higher exposure risk to detect asymptomatic cases. Penn Charter will required all community members to be tested after the winter break prior to the return to campus learning, and may do another community-wide testing process at additional intervals this year.

If a community member has a positive test from any source:

  • Penn Charter will follow CDC and local government guidelines to help contain the spread of Covid-19 within our community.

  • Any student or employee who develops symptoms of illness while at school will be assessed by the health office nurses and further instructions will be given.

  • Penn Charter’s health office suite now includes extra rooms for isolation, sick care triage and a wellness room for daily community needs.

  • If a student or employee tests positive for Covid-19, we will assist in contact tracing for students and employees.

  • Penn Charter will maintain a flexible attendance policy for students and employees to all days at home during illness and any required quarantine needs.

  • Students will receive support in transitioning from in-person to remote learning if necessary; in line with past practice and policy, we will assist faculty with coverage when requested during absences due to illness.

  • Guidance regarding the closure or dismissal of a classroom, division or school due to Covid-19 will be provided by Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH). The decision to close or dismiss students and/or faculty/staff from campus is a collaborative decision with the PDPH.
