Learning Gardens

Penn Charter is currently home to four Learning Garden areas. They include the two beds outside of the Lower School main doors, two beds behind the Middle School, the kindergarten "wraparound" garden, and five beds on the Strawbridge campus below the tennis courts.

The PCLG goals are to:

1. Provide hands-on experiences with planting and cultivating, with emphasis on the cultivation of edible crops.
2. Furnish the school cafeteria, Penn Charter families and/or local non-profit groups with nutritious, ultra-local produce.
3. Create relationships across units and constituencies at Penn Charter.

To date, the Learning Gardens have provided meaningful gardening experiences for advisory groups, Upper School English classes, Lower and Middle School science classes, Alternative Meeting for Worship, PC Summer Camp and other groups.
