When I mention that I teach math, far too often adults respond, “I hated math” or “I can’t do math.”

I hope our math department provides our students with a very different experience, one in which each student is met where they are at mathematically and then encouraged and supported to experience growth and success. We strive to make math an active and engaging process, empowering students to explore and discover. We encourage students to question and seek answers: “Does this make sense?” “I wonder if…”

I have taught mathematics in a wide variety of venues, including two boarding schools, a public high school, a community college, and now at Penn Charter, a Quaker day school. I've learned that two things are the same everywhere—I love math and I love teaching and working with kids.

My ultimate goal is to nurture and grow in each and every learner confidence in themselves and their ability to do math.
