A Big, Joyful, Opening Week

What a week!

The first week of the 2021-2022 school year was jam-packed with activity. On Wednesday, classes began for students in all grades. It was a joy to welcome everyone to campus, and see our youngest learners walk through the red doors for the first time.

School roared back to life in a big way on Wednesday and Thursday. View a Flickr set of the first day of pre-K and K, and scroll through social media @penncharter for more from the first week of school.

The All-School Assembly on Friday was outdoors on Maguire Field for grades 7-12, and streamed to classrooms for pre-K to 6. Head of School Darryl J. Ford expanded on the theme for the year, Joy in Community, and centered his remarks on the query, "What can you do to both be in community, and do in community?"

The Class of 2022 joined William A. Graham IV OPC '58 in front of the Graham Athletics & Wellness Center — the Graham for short — for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting marking the official opening of the new building. Cheers from students and teachers rose into the clear blue sky as they thanked Bill Graham for his gift that made the building possible. In a brief video message shown to students Friday morning, Frances Graham, his wife, predicted that students will enjoy the building so much they won't want to leave it.

We think she's right. Student response has been overwhelmingly positive, reflecting our community's shared gratitude and amazement. The Graham will elevate PC athletics, and it will become a hub and a true gathering place for our community. See photos of students in the Graham on Flickr
