Shontae Smarr is Director of the Philly Food Rescue Program, a non-profit that rescues surplus food and redirects it to organizations serving households in need. Donors to the Food Rescue Program include grocery stores, retailers, restaurants, caterers, and universities, and recipients include non-profits, faith-based institutions, soup kitchens and senior centers. The program's mission is to "eliminate hunger and promote health in our community," where it's estimated that 1 in 5 people experience food insecurity. Smarr will deliver the keynote address at Penn Charter's Upper School Day of Service.
