Penn Charter's Asian Student Association and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are honored to host, virtually, Japanese internment camp survivor Kenji Onishi. He will share about his life and experiences of imprisonment in an American internment camp during World War II. This event is open to all members of the Penn Charter community. Because of the nature of the stories, we recommend the program for students in grade 7 and above. See Parent Post for zoom information details. The event will be May 18 at 7:00 p.m.

Born April 24, 1927, in Portland, Oregon, Onishi grew up in the Portland area, where father worked for the railroad. During World War II, he was removed to the Portland Assembly Center, Oregon, and the Minidoka concentration camp, Idaho. After leaving camp, he served in the military and eventually returned to Portland and became a teacher
