PC's Center for Public Purpose is engaged in a innovative nutrition project with St. James School in Allegheny West that is designed to fight food insecurity in the neighborhood.
The project is a centerpiece of St. James' efforts with Di Bruno Bros., the Philadelphia-based food purveyor, to bring fresh vegetables to school families and the Allegheny West neighborhood.
Di Bruno has committed resources to build a "nutrition education center" at St. James, and over the summer Penn Charter students and St. James students are actively working on a summer garden.
PC Upper School English teacher Lisa Turner will be involved in the project year round. Check out the blog maintained by Turner — it chronicles "the labor and laughter of Saint James School Garden Club."
