Tim Lynch (aka "Doc") has been teaching science for the past 28 years, 20 years at Penn Charter, teaching biology, molecular biology, space biology, botany and robotics. Doc has received the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program's Teacher Recognition Award. He will be assisted by some terrific staff from Penn Charter’s Day Camp.
Using the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT robotics system, campers will construct and program robots that can see, hear and touch to navigate through a variety of obstacle courses. Courses will include dangerously steep hills, daring cliffside assents, and the dark and dangerous passages of the Egyptian pyramids to retrieve ancient scrolls. Be warned, this camp may be more fun than you can handle! Campers will be part of a Robotics Research Team that will eventually compete in a winner-take-all robot wrestling match. Swim and recreational options included.
Day 1 Build your first robot and learn to program its movements and sensors.
Day 2 Program your robot to take on your first robot challenge: Pendle Hill climb.
Day 3 Continue Pendle Hill climb and configure your robots for the next challenge – the dark passages of the pyramids.
Day 4 Emerge from the dark passages and prepare your robot to enter the jousting ring.
Day 5 Robot jousting!
Don't feel like packing lunch in the summertime? Try our lunch option. Campers will be served a nutritious and balanced meal with various choices. Daily offerings will include one entree (salad, sandwich or grill item) one small drink, and one snack or fruit. Cost: $6/day, $30/week. Campers are encouraged to sign up in advance if interested in this option, although cash “drop-ins” will be accepted. The lunch option is not available for Junior Bunks (most three-, four- and five-year-olds). No refunds/credits for missed days/weeks.
Interested families may enroll in the extended-day option by indicating so in the appropriate space on the application. Campers may enroll in the Early-Bird Program, the After-Camp Program or both. Families who need this service occasionally or in an emergency must contact the director, and cash payment must be received the day the service is provided. Note: The After-Camp Program is not held on the last day of camp, Aug. 3.
Prices listed below apply to advanced registration only. Drop-ins accepted on a daily basis without registration for a cash fee of $15 per day, per program.
