PC Girls Tally Two

In 1985, due to his outstanding play at linebacker, Penn Charter's P.J. Maley was tabbed as the Daily News' Inter-Ac Player of the Year. Thirty years later? His daughter, Emma, is a PC frosh on the varsity girls soccer team — and she scored the winning goal Nov. 3 as the Quakers topped visiting Baldwin, 2-1, on the new turf field.

With about 2 1/2 minutes left, Maley accepted a pass from soph Gi DeMarco and drilled a 20-yard, straight-on shot into the right side of the net. About midway through the first half, Gi tallied off an assist from her sister, Dominique, a senior. Soph Mackenzie Listman had a strong outing in goal.

In field hockey, PC also topped Baldwin. By a 2-0 score in this one. As for the scoring plays: So nice they did it twice! Senior Bella Smith did the passing. Classmate Ellie Zimering did the shooting. The two tallies were notched about three minutes apart in the first half and a strong surge goalward by soph Catherine McInerney preceded the first one. Junior Janelle Sullivan was perfect in goal.

Go Charter!

The spirit of Penn Charter athletics is built on a storied tradition of excellence and the belief that the interplay of academics, arts and athletics leads to strong, creative, resilient and flexible people.

Skilled teachers and coaches help our students understand – whether on the playing field or in the classroom – how to collaborate and compete, how to win with grace, and how to handle challenges and setbacks.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
