Boys Soccer Advances in PAISAA

Who knew? Losing your shirt can bring good luck. Because his No. 11 home jersey recently went bye-bye, senior midfielder Drew Shaifer had to wear No. 36 Thursday as Penn Charter's boys varsity soccer team hosted Westtown in the first round of the PAISAA tourney. All he did was contribute one assist and two goals. On the assist, Shaifer thumped a free kick from a spot near the right corner. Stationed inside, senior midfielder Harrison Williams — pictured above — soared and directed a head ball into the goal. Shaifer tallied the next two goals on feeds from Williams.

The final tally, posted with 33 minutes remaining, was scored by junior midfielder Max Jacobs and Williams again handled help-him-do-it duties. Junior goalie Jay Jennings surrendered one score on an early penalty kick, but otherwise was flawless. Final score: 4-1. PC will meet Hill School, a 3-1 winner over Germantown Academy, in a quarterfinal. Details TBA.
