Boys BBall Clicks in Fourth Quarter
Talk about a stark contrast. After playing quite well in the first and third quarters in Tuesday's opener vs. Germantown Friends, boys varsity basketball experienced mighty struggles in those sessions Friday vs. visiting West Catholic. But in the fourth, pretty much everything clicked and the Quakers used a 22-6 advantage to post a 52-49 victory.
PC went ahead for good, at 48-47 with 2:49 remaining, as junior Adam Holland roared downcourt and big-boyed his way to a three-point play. Sophomore Mason Williams scored seven of his 12 points in the last stanza while senior sub Jake McCain, primarily known for football/lacrosse feats, showed that he also takes sport No. 3 quite seriously by scrambling for three apiece of rebounds/steals. Overall, senior Harrison Williams had seven rebounds and two blocks. Junior Mike "Neeko" Hnatkowsky, also a sub, added seven points and five boards.
Tuesday vs. Abington Friends, at home again, PC will shoot for its first 3-0 start since the 2002-03 season (5-0). That team featured two future NBA players, Sean Singletary and Rob Kurz; a future pro lacrosse player, Tony McDevitt; and current Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (Jake's cousin).
