Basketball Wins at Home and Away
Since the weather has yet to turn cold, maybe we should not be surprised that fall-sports guys are performing impressive feats on the basketball court.
Tuesday at home, boys varsity basketball upped its record to 3-0 (achieved for the first time since the 2002-03 season) with a 69-39 triumph over visiting Abington Friends. Junior Mike "Neeko" Hnatkowsky led in rebounds with six and shared the steals lead with senior Jake McCain at four. They're coming off strong football campaigns. Shooting a perfect 4-for-4 (floor, two treys) and 1-for-1 for 11 points was senior Harrison Williams, a soccer stalwart. The young bucks were also well represented as frosh Ryan Holmes tallied a game-high 14 points. Junior Dylan Burnett (12) also scored in double figures.
Girls varsity basketball used a big advantage in the first-third quarters (38-19 total) to fuel a 58-53 win at Shipley. Senior Hannah Fox racked up 27 points while adding six rebounds and three apiece of assists/steals. Juniors Mireyah Davis (11 points, three rebounds) Alexis Hnatkowsky (seven; Mike's her brother), and Julie Web (two points, six rebounds), and senior Ayanna Matthews (six) helped on the boards. Ninth grader Emma Maley, transitioning from a strong soccer season, added five points.
