PC Squash Takes Two

On Wednesday girls varsity squash topped Harriton, a public school in Lower Merion, by a score of 6-3 and four players turned in shutouts. Ninth-grader Elisabeth Ross, sophomore Gwen Davis, ninth-grader Mia Bezar and sophomore Meredith Bernstein all won by 3-0 scores. The other winners were senior Gabi Rodriguez and sophomore Charlotte Murray.

Boys varsity squash also rolled to victory Wednesday, and that score was 7-2 over Germantown Friends. Senior Tate Miller, a co-captain, led the 3-0 sweeps and was joined by eighth-grader Tommy Fournaris, junior Reid Kleinman, sophomore Ben Swanson and freshman Tom Bradbeer. Freshmen Rohan Bhambhani and Max Lubowitz triumphed by 3-1 scores. The losses were suffered in the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, by sophomores Marco Rodriguez and Marker Angelakis, respectively, but those results were understandable. Their opponents rank in the Top 20 nationally! The squad claimed this win after an 0-3 start against Episcopal, Shipley and SCH Academy. Coach Damon Leedale-Brown pointed out that the Shipley match, despite the defeat, created good vibrations because Miller (13-11 in fifth game) and sophomore Soren Heinz (12-10 in fifth game) fought hard until the very end. After the GF win, Leedale-Brown noted, "Our younger players showed great maturity and confidence on court, and this win will be a great boost for the team as we go into winter break."
