Fox Sets New PC Girls Hoops Record

Hannah Fox stands alone among Penn Charter's girls varsity basketball players.

With a 19-point effort Tuesday in a non-league girls basketball game at Hill School — in Pottstown, won by PC, 57-28 — the senior guard raised her career scoring total to 1,575. The mark previously belonged to Virginia McMunigal OPC '06, who played her college ball at Cornell — she was a two-year starter there — after ringing up 1,573 points in four years for the Quakers. Hannah will play basketball next year for Amherst College.

Though Fox would have had 32 minutes at her disposal vs. Hill, she needed only 20. Coach Joe Maguire provided these details for the special moment: Midway through the third quarter, with the ball a shade into PC's territory, Hannah deflected a pass, recovered the ball, zipped downcourt and beat two defenders for an uncontested layup.

Those points lifted Hannah's total to 1,575. She did not shoot again and departed, with the other starters, after the third quarter ended at 50-13. The game was stopped briefly so that Hannah could accept congratulations and hugs from her teammates and family.

This is Hannah's fifth varsity season. Numbers provided by a former head coach, Dave Bass, and an assistant, Laura Kurz, show that she scored 146 points as an eighth grader, 369 as a ninth grader, 362 as a sophomore and 458 as a junior. She owns 240 so far as a senior.

In the Hill game, Fox also contributed four assists and five steals to the victory. Senior Ayanna Matthews added 13 points, junior Lexi Hnatkowsky snagged seven rebounds and juniors Julie Webb and Mireyah "Rey" Davis halved six blocks.

All PC points for this special game are listed here: Hannah Fox 19, Ayanna Matthews 13, Julie Webb 8, Mireyah Davis 6, Lexi Hnatkowsky 4, Abigail Cohen 3, Taylor Zahairagun 2, Marilyn Pease 2.

Congrats to Hannah!! Go Charter!
