Wednesday Softball and Track Results

Varsity softball is playing hardball.

After rolling past SCH Academy on Tuesday by a score of 11-0, the girls fared even better on Wednesday, storming to a 16-0, five-inning win over visiting Friends' Central.

Senior Eileen Hennessy provided the top highlight, cracking a three-run homer to center. At first, the players, coaches and spectators had trouble seeing where the ball had landed. Then they looked upward. It was stuck in a tree well above the playing surface.

Junior Brigitte Gutpelet also had a big day, thumping a double and triple.

Eighth grader Anastasia Lewis (three innings) and soph Ava Nicolucci (two) divided the pitching. The righthanders combined for a three-hitter. Ava recorded five of her six outs with punchouts.

Girls track hosted Episcopal and Notre Dame, dropping both contests.

Junior Marilyn Pease, who's new to track, had a great day. Marilyn (pictured above) won the 300 intermediate hurdles in 52.8 seconds and tied for first in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches.

Senior Emily Smith took first in the 1600 at 5:37, junior Felicia Robinson seized the triple jump at 35-5 and two squads ruled the relay roost – the 4x100 (53.83) and 4x400 (4:39.82). Also, Robinson was second in the 300 IH (53.5).

Boys track trekked to Episcopal and fell, 65-57.

Winning efforts were made exclusively by juniors: Akeem Blake in the 200 and 400, Dylan Burnett in the 110 high hurdles, Pat McLaughlin in the 300 intermediate hurdles and junior Ed McIlvaine in the pole vault.
