Girls Lacrosse Wins in OT
An early prediction that sophomore Lexi Joseph would emerge as the final hero in Thursday's girls varsity lacrosse game against visiting Notre Dame would not have made much sense.
After all, she was playing defense and continued to do so for roughly two-thirds of the contest.
But as OT began, junior Macaul Mellor won the draw and soon flipped the ball to Joseph. A short time later, after maneuvering her way to the right side of the goal, Lexi whipped a shot and . . . scored! The final was 11-10. After just 33 seconds of the extra session. Macaul (left) and Lexi are shown above.
A loss in this Inter-Ac game would have been quite the downer, considering that PC owned leads of 8-3 (late in the first half) and 9-6 (18 minutes left in the second).
The Quakers trailed, 10-9, after ND scored with 45.3 seconds remaining in regulation. Following a shooting space penalty, from a set position right out front, Mellor stormed toward the goal and made it 10-10 at 22.6.
That score was her fourth. Senior Hannah Fox matched that number and her career total now stands at 98. The Quakers' other regulation goals were scored by junior Perri Keehfuss and soph Emma Wilson.
While making the score 6-3, Mellor and Fox scored 13 seconds apart.
