Softball, Baseball, Track Round-Up

Four varsity squads competed in assorted events Wednesday and the result was a 2-2 split.

Softball pinned a 14-0 setback on visiting Notre Dame.

Junior Faith Fenton claimed the win in the five-inning game, allowing three hits and striking out four. Senior Eileen Hennessy racked up five RBI with help of a double and homer, junior Abby Cohen went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI, and classmate Brigitte Gutpelet laced a triple while going 3-for-3 with a walk.

Baseball opened Inter-Ac play by falling, 3-2, at Episcopal.

Junior lefty Brendan Cellucci allowed just one hit in six innings, but some walks and errors proved to be costly. Steve Lorenz (single) and Adam Holland (groundout after a triple by James Gabor) notched the RBI. Those guys also are juniors. Boys track traveled to Haverford School and lost, 66-56. Junior Akeem Blake continued his excellent spring by sweeping the high, long and triple jumps with season-best efforts of 6-4, 21 and 44. Plus, Harper Pollio-Barbee took first in the 800 and 1600.

Girls track bested visiting Agnes Irwin, 61-45. Ninth grader Mary McDavid provided a highlight by capturing the 800 with a personal record of 2:35.

Our school cheer is: Go Charter!

We appreciate the student athletes who are now powering PC to great feats, and look forward to welcoming those who will do so in the future. Also, of course, we eternally appreciate the efforts of all OPCs!
