Daryl Worley Drafted by Carolina
Three years ago at this time, Daryl Worley OPC '13 was running track and thinking ahead to graduation.
Now he's asking himself, "Where can I find a good financial advisor?"
Worley, a 6-1, 204-pound junior cornerback from West Virginia, Friday night was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the third round (No. 77 overall) of the NFL draft.
Since 1974, Worley is one of 19 products of Public, Catholic and Inter-Ac schools to be tabbed in the first three rounds. And the second OPC. The other, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan OPC '03, was the third overall choice in 2008.
At PC, Worley, shown here after scoring in the 2012 PC/GA game, earned first team All-City honors at defensive back in 2012. Four times he was a first team All-Inter-Ac selection – wide receiver in 2010, multipurpose in 2011 and WR/defensive back in 2012.
He made seven interceptions in his PC career. On offense, he made 84 catches for 1,373 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing 77 times for 465 yards and two scores. He added 12 more yards while passing 1-for-2.
In the 2013 track season, he won the 100, 200 and 400 as PC captured the Inter-Ac championship.
This coming NFL campaign, Atlanta will play the Panthers on Oct. 2 and Dec. 24.
Will Matt throw passes into Daryl's area? . . . Could be interesting.
