Dramatic Win for Boys Tennis against EA

From proud coach Phil Stevens ...

Boys varsity tennis finished up their regular season today with a nail-biting win over league rival Episcopal Academy.

Heading into today's match with identical league records, today's winner would take sole possession of second place in the Inter-Ac. For the second year in a row, PC managed to gut out the narrowest of victories and walk away second only to Haverford.

PC singles players Greg Zlobinsky (#1), Ben Swanson (#2), and Nirvikar Singh (#3) all cruised to straight-set victories in efficient and impressive efforts.

The drama grew quickly as the Quakers dropped the first 3 doubles matches. Of note in these matches, freshman Tom Bradbeer and sophomore Alex Shipon battled a hard-hitting and aggressive #1 team from EA to a third set before dropping the deciding set 2-6.

It was well after 7:00 PM when sophomores Justin Ko and Josh Toll completed their comeback win at 4th doubles, taking the third set 6-4 in front of a raucous crowd gathered around court seven.

Before today's match, the team recognized the achievements and involvement of the team's three seniors, Nirvikar SIngh, Nate Ewing, and Luca Fortina. The team heads next to the Inter-Ac doubles and singles championships next Monday and Tuesday.
